The World Cup Story the first sixty years

1934: Final

There is a very large crowd for the final. Italy are the home team. Fascist dictator Mussolini is in the stadium. They are expected to win easily

But the Final starts badly for Italy. They play poorly in the first half. Perhaps it's the pressure of being favourites. Everyone expects Italy to win. Defeat is not an option

The crowd becomes increasingly quiet. Then in the 70th minute Puc scores a shock goal. Czechoslovakia take the lead! Is there going to be a great upset?

Italy attack but Czechoslovakia hold on until the 81st minute when Orsi equalises. The game moves into the extra-time.

In the 95th minute Schiavio finally put Italy in the lead. They go on to win 2-1 after extra time.
