The World Cup Story the first sixty years

Argentina v Brazil

All the seeded teams qualify for the Round of Sixteen. Brazil again are one of the strongest sides. They dominate the game against their old rivals Argentina.

Then a single brilliant pass changes everything.

Caniggia scores the winning goal in a rare Argentine attack.

Another surprise in the Round of Sixteen is Cameroon’s 2-1 victory over Colombia. Once again Roger Milla is the hero. West Germany beat Holland in a very bad-tempered match. Both Voller and Rikjaard are sent off early in the first half.

England make very hard work of beating Belgium. The score is 0-0 for 119 minutes. Then in the final minute of extra time David Platt scores a dramatic winner.
